Oldest national cup in the world, it’s very romanticised in England. Any team can enter so you find there can be a team 5 leagues below playing a top tier side I. A David and Goliath match and sometimes, rarely but makes it special, the under digs win. Often find those happen in the 4th or 5th round. Semis today and tomorrow. But all premier league teams.

We have it on as well. Not sure how long I will be around as we have to do some volunteer work for the candidate in our federal election but right now our car is at the shop getting the snow tires off and the summer tires on so I am at home until it finishes

Hhhm,complicated question! So today I should be supporting Crystal Palace (playing Asron Villa) as that’s where I grew up but I have a soft spot for AV cos my best friend lives there. I also love Newcastle as another BF lives there, her dad first took me to games at St James Park and her husband died in a accident a year ago and was a season ticket holder and he was always appalled at my flakiness with teams so you know, I support them in his memory. But then I support Chelsea cos my late Grandad’s team, and Brighton cos now my local.

I started watching Lois & Clark in September 1993, the year it started airing—I was only 13 years old! Back in the day of VHS and dial-up internet and having to wait all summer to get the answer to Lois’s question at the end of season 2! I think I was 14 or 15 when I found the fandom online via the AOL chatroom and the LISTSERV (old-school word for newsletter/​group email).

We had our first-ever Kerth Awards in 1998, just before I was to graduate high school. And would you believe that one of my first fics ever written got nominated for a Kerth? I was so thrilled and honored!

I’m not going to wax poetic, because our first category is Best Micro-Short! So in honour of these wonderful authors who kept it micro-short and sweet, here are our nominees in a nutshell:

Everyone has at least one episode which we know the writers of the original series could have done better. Since they are not available, we fanfiction writers are more than happy to fix that particular episode ourselves. In more than a few cases the adaptation is far superior to the original.

I guess we all have our favorite go-to stories, when we’re feeling down. Stories that cheer us up, even if they might not be particularly funny. And they come in all sizes and packages.

2023 Ficathon: Planes, Trains and Deep Fried Mars Bars for Queen of the Capes by lovetvfan takes us on an amazing trip to Scotland where our favorite couple ends up by accident. But they discover so much more than they were looking for. Deep Fried Mars bars, and each other.

Falling For a Farm Boy by Female Hawk tells us the story of a different Lois and Clark, both struggling in their respective lives. Lois with the mistake she made and Clark with grief after his father died. And while they wait for a little calf to be born, they’re slowly falling in love.

Imagine a universe where fans only ever read the original episode scripts, posting and sharing them completely unchanged. In this world, there are no what-ifs, no alternate endings or roads not taken, no original characters or new plots of any sort: only the canon, static and pure. Sounds dull, doesn’t it?

Writing a story requires imagination. Every piece of fanfiction we enjoy exists because someone chose to unleash their own creativity rather than passively accept what’s already been shown in canon. And every once in a while, someone dares to let their imagination go completely wild, remaking the very foundations of the story into something new and unfamiliar and exciting!

Those lives may involve a Kansas farm, or an alien ghetto, or an unexplained ship. Okay, I’m going to need an outline for this. I should start with a warm welcome – but this is not even my first speech of the day? A greeting and a thank you for the opportunity, then. That should take us to about 100-150 words.

Then I’ll talk about how important short stories are for those of us who don’t have much time in our daily lives between work and chores and everything… how enjoyable it is to be able to steal these little breaks to enjoy a short story that manages to give us such a great glimpse into Lois and Clark’s lives… two paragraphs of that, right? 400 words, at the very least. I’ve got no shortage of praise for these stories and authors.

Where was I…?

Ah, yes, I was supposed to talk about our fan sites today.

I guess most of you have already heard the news earlier this year but…

Our servers are now hosting not just the message boards and the nfic archive and the Kerth site, but also the official Lois & Clark Fanfiction Archive!

Lauren has maintained the Archive out of her own pocket for more than 30 years and all on her own time, but with her current webhoster becoming more and more unreliable, we decided to merge our efforts.

Luckily for us, our server has enough capacity to take on the extra load.

And I can tell you now, Lauren was more than excited about how the migration turned out and how well the Archive is running on our shared server now!

So, what does that mean for regular FoLC?

Well, nothing really, except that the pages load a bit snappier.

What’s more important is that Sara and Bek are now able to really spin up their work as Co-Editors in Chief of the Archive and will work hard to get Archive contributions up and running and processed into the Archive, now that Kerth season is over and there’s supposedly time for other things.

On the technical side of things, I also got a couple of plans to bring our FoLC sites into the next decade and reduce the burden of maintaining the Archive by reducing the manual labor required to add a story to the Archive.

SOOOOO grateful to Lauren for this labor of love! And we love that she’s still hanging around to help out when she can. Kinda like Annette "retired" but is still doing things in the background when she can 👏👏👏👏

Good, so why am I still taking and boring everyone here who’s ready to see who’s best at kissing?

Yeah, well…here’s the thing:

While we didn’t have to upgrade our server lease to handle the additional load, we still have to pay our yearly (or rather, triennial) fees.

The next payment will be in early 2027 and we need to collect the funds for this payment over the next year and a half.

At present, this goal is still about 800 USD away.

Now, there’s two ways to tackle this:

One is to consider we got about 20 hardcore FoLCs and if everyone chips in 20 bucks a year, we’re all set!

And the other is to do a Fun-Raiser later this year!

So the newer FoLCs have an idea about it: This is literally thousands of dollars and hours over the last three decades, and she’s so happy to have done it!

Hi everyone!

I’m SuperBek, last year’s winner of Best New Author, and I’m here (or…not 😅) to present this year’s award for Best New Author!

It’s really amazing to me that even after 30+ years, the fandom is still continuing to add new authors every year, and I truly think part of that is because of how welcoming the community is.

When I came back to writing after a long, long break, I had so many stories in my head just bursting to come out. I wrote and wrote and wrote (mostly long, angsty stories that put Clark through the wringer a bit 😅). Because of a bad experience I’d had when I was younger, I was terrified to share my work (I’m talking seriously severe anxiety here!), and when I finally worked up the courage to post my first story (after reaching out to KSaraSara), I was blown away by how supportive the community was. Seriously, y’all are amazing.

It’s thanks to you all—your encouragement, feedback, and gentle (or not) prodding—that I became confident enough to write more and share more…even when the story, uh, wasn’t exactly canon. 😂😎😏

I have had so much fun with the challenges especially. They really pushed me to expand my writing and I love doing them

Hi all again!!

My last speech for the night definitely goes with the disclaimer “last, but not least”!

I love this category and I’m perpetually in awe of all the people who do visual arts! I could never!!

And I think we’re all so lucky to be in this fandom that has provided us with four seasons’ worth of videos, and photos from interviews and promotional content, which our dear artists can use to create new and unique pieces!

Today we have four works nominated: a collection of graphics, one short music video and two full length music videos. Wonderful variety for all our fannish needs!

And, baby needed me again the second I finished my speech. Good timing, baby

my hubby ran a solo, impromptu garage sale (the rest of the neighborhood was having one, but we didn’t plan well 😅 ) AND has kept the kid from barging in for like… 3 hours or more! 🙌

I want to start by saying it’s indeed a joy to get FDK in any shape or form. And that includes the little kudos notifications I find on occasion in the morning on my phone.

So, that’s what I have in mind when I’m reading a story.

Just leave a note.

Make the author smile.

And let them peek into your own twisted mind as you read along how Lois and Clark are happy until Clark finds a 🐸 in the night stand.

I’m not saying that any author ever said that.

I just see it as a valid option when reading them.

And apparently that’s a good thing!

We all have favorite stories, and they are our favorites because they meet or exceed a collection of criteria.

Often these tales leave us gaping at the time when we finally think to glance up at the clock after hours of reading.

And when the world beats us down, these are the stories we return to to take a breather.

In these stories, the events and characters within pull us from our own troubles and cause us to feel physically and emotionally sated in the end after taking us on a rollercoaster ride full of things like adventure, suspense, and a range of deep feels.
