But yeah, just when I’d gotten the hang of things— finding and respecting my limitations with chronic pain, settling into a late adhd diagnosis and figuring out habits and routines that help me work with my neurosparkly brain, and there was probably a third thing but I forgot. 😆

my sister is 19 years and 9 months younger than me. So I round it to 20 years. Except that we both ahve a habit of rounding up our age months before our birthday. if she does it too, I lose all sense of how old I am

Ah, micro shorts. What can be said about this genre of short form fiction? Writing is already a daunting task that requires some level of talent, creativity, skill, and determination. But when one limits the number of words that one can use, as is the case in short works, and especially micro shorts, how does one still manage to convey a complete thought, let alone a narrative? Economy of words and pruning of ideas are thus, themselves, additional skills that are especially worthy of celebration.

There can never be too many revelation stories. We all love the thrill that comes with the moment of Lois finding out the truth or the dawning realization of Clark learning Lois has known about Superman for awhile. With some fics, the suspense pulls at us for a sustained length of time, while in others the reveal comes without warning and it’s the fallout we love to pour over. Each fic comes with its own unique spin, and this year five have been nominated for 2026’s Best Revelation story.

I love having the ficathons because it’s a sure-fire way to force my brain to write, and I usually love what comes of it! And I was super happy to be able to write for @JadedEvie, who in a previous year, wrote and AMAZING one with my prompts! I just want to add that I spent time looking for the perfect actual Elvis story to include, since one of Evie’s prompts was for Perry to tell an Elvis story 😆

This story felt like a big (and silly) swing for me.

I’ve got an awfully big case of imposter syndrome, something I know a lot of writers share (even here, where the authors are SO talented!). To be honest, thinking of myself as a writer still feels fake. I started writing out of grief, after my closest friend passed away – which is where my first ever story, Undercover Reporter, came from, where Lois gets her best friend back against impossible odds.

But then I kept going. Partly because of the addicting, serotonin-boosting feedback, partly because of the incomparably warm and welcoming community here, and partly as a way to process what emotions in what can feel like a very full brain.

I’m back guys. Ever had a long, boring day at work? We’ve all had them! You simply want to forget about endless e-mails, moving target deadlines and nosy co-workers gossiping over the cubicle wall. What to do? Furthermore, our brilliant fan fiction writers create their own characters to embellish this fictional universe. It’s never easy to make us fall in love with an original character but these stories successfully did that.

There is just something about elseworld or AU stories that satisfies a craving we didn’t even know we had. Whether our favorite characters are set in a universe with a single aspect different from canon – such as a critical event from canon occurring differently – or the entire setting has shifted into something entirely unrecognizable with our tried and true heroes navigating it, these stories provide us new worlds to dive into to the point we wonder which we prefer: them or canon.

I’m here to talk about an interesting term we all know and love…

Waffy.

Upon first hearing this years ago when I first joined the fandom one thought came to mind, where did such an odd word come from? Is it real or made up? Is it a word Perry would consider using in a story while holding his red editor’s pen? Maybe Cat came up with it during some swanky society event? One thing is for sure, it ain’t a word Lex Luthor would use! (Morgana fans herself thinking of sexy Lexy in a bespoke double-breasted suit. She stops, remembers where she is and then continues.) Seeking an answer, I pulled out my trusty, well-thumbed thesaurus to look it up and what did it say?

That tells me it is exclusively FoLCs own special expression… used to describe sweet, serendipitous things and events regarding our favorite duo of intrepid reporters! Kudos to us!

A well written long story is like a drawn out meal with good friends, where we can spend time together and really savor the duration of quality time.

I’m AmandaK, winner of last year’s Best New Author, and today I will be presenting this year’s Best New Author award.

I started writing fanfiction way back in middle school for a variety of other fandoms. It had been some years since Lois and Clark had gone off the air so it wasn’t really on my radar at the time. After years of writing, I set it aside for several years and I didn’t have any plans to pick it up again.

Then, one day, after re-watching all of Lois and Clark, I found myself wanting more stories (the series ended far too soon). So, I ventured into the world of fanfiction, expecting to find only a handful of fanfics.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered the archives with its plethora of prose going all the way back to the beginning. I was further surprised to discover the message board and a thriving community of FOLCS still churning out stories to keep us entertained for years to come.
